SUBJECT: AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE


MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 RIVIERA/REATTA



All 1988 Rivieras/Reattas are equipped with a refrigerant system filter within the compressor hose assembly muffler (Illustration). This filter eliminates the need to flush the A/C system after a compressor failure.

When replacing a compressor on a 1988 Riviera/Reatta:

1. Replace the compressor hose assembly (P/N 1644314)

2. Inspect the orifice tube for debris and if necessary clean or replace it.

NOTICE: If, in the unlikely event the muffler assembly filter is ripped or damaged and debris is noted at the orifice tube, flush the system with Refrigerant 12 (R-12), following the procedure outlined in the 1987 Chassis Service Manual on pages 1B14 and 15.
For warranty purposes, use labor operation D4440 at .6 hour for compressor replacement with an add time of 1.1 hours for compressor hose assembly replacement and .5 hour to discharge/charge A/C system.
