Some comments have been received of 1988 LeSabres, Electras and Rivieras equipped with 3800 engines exhibiting a "Service Engine Soon" light with a Code 48 (misfire) stored, but with no driveability problems.
This is to advise that Buick Service Engineering is investigating this condition and will be releasing a service bulletin to the field in the near future.
In the interim, if a customer comes in with a Code 48, the vehicle should be examined to determine whether or not there is a malfunction setting this code. If no malfunction or driveability problem exists, erase the code prior to releasing the vehicle. In many cases, the code does not reset when mileage increases.
