1988 V6 3800 ENGINE
The 1988 V6-231/3.8L 3800 (90° arrangement) series engine, Figs. 26 and 27, is a modified version of previous models. This engine incorporates Sequential Port Fuel Injection with Electronic Mass Air Flow measurement. The cylinder block has been lengthened, allowing the connecting rods to be positioned in the center line of the bore and on the center line of the pistons. This improvement allows the use of new low tension compression rings, which results in improved fuel economy. The V6 3800 incorporates a balance shaft which is gear driven from the camshaft sprocket and counter-rotates at engine speed to eliminate first order primary imbalance.
