Engine - Coolant Loss

CYLINDER BLOCK LEAK INSPECTION:

Bulletin: 84-6-40

Date: Dec '84

Ref. No.: 85-094-6B
A comment of coolant loss on some 1984 2.5L engines may be the result of a casting separation in the lifter bore area.

If pressure testing shows no visible evidence of coolant loss, remove the cover from the valve lifter area and inspect the casting just above the lifters. See illustration.

With the engine warm and pressure applied, coolant should be visible using "black light".

If the condition is evident, the cylinder block will have to be replaced.

NOTE: Carefully inspect the camshaft and lifters in the area of the separation to insure no damage has occurred from dilution of lubrication.
