SUBJECT:
Left Side Engine Mount Support Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
This Service Action involves Z8 vehicles with S62 engines which were produced up to 11/21/2000.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges shown are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

CORRECTION PROCEDURE

Replace the left side engine mount support on all affected vehicles.

Note:
The below repair procedure is incorporated (With illustrations) in the repair manual, group 11, section 11 13 010.

1. Disconnect battery.

2. Remove left side upper section of the intake air filter housing with air mass meter.

3. Remove power steering fluid reservoir from bracket and move toward the front of the engine compartment. Hoses remain connected.

6. Remove 2 top engine mount nuts (left and right side).

7. Remove the engine and transmission plastic covers from under vehicle.

9. Remove upper radiator hose (left side) from radiator.

10. As outlined in repair manual group 11, section 11 13 010, carefully raise the engine (using BMW special tools) approximately 6 - 8 millimeters (1/4 inch).

11. Replace the left side engine mount support.

Note:
Install new 0 rings.

Torque specifications:

Engine mount support to block (M8 bolts) = 22 - 24Nm (16 - 18ft.lb.)

Top engine mount nut (M10) = 42Nm (31ft.lb)

12. Reinstall all components removed above, in reverse order and reconnect battery.

Note:
Refill engine coolant and bleed coolant system as outlined in repair manual group 17, section 17 00 039.
