Front Cross-Member: Service and Repair
Replacing Front Axle Support
Caution: Adjust front axle after assembly, refer to Alignment.
Suspend engine in installation position with special tool, described in: Remove oil sump, refer to Engine.
Unfasten stabilizer on front axle support, refer to Stabilizer Bar, Sway Control, Service and Repair.
Unfasten tension struts on front axle support, refer to Control Arm, Service and Repair.
Release control arm on front axle support, refer to Control Arm, Service and Repair.
Support spring strut shock absorber from outside.
Release nut on engine mount on left and right.
Installation:
Use washer (1).
Turning lock (2) must snap into place.
Measure or mark up screw-in length (A) of both tie rods, unfasten nut and disconnect tie rods.
Installation:
Screw in tie rods to appropriate screw-in length (A).
Release steering transmission from front-axle carrier.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts. Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
Unfasten left and right screw.
Release screws on panel (1).
Withdraw pin (1).
Pull out expansion rivet (2) and remove panel.
Release holder for hydraulic lines.
Release holder for hydraulic lines.
Unclip all lines on front axle support.
Detach plug from ride level sensor.
Warning:
Release screw connection of front axle support from vehicle side - there must be no personnel situated under the front axle!
Risk of injury!
Support front-axle carrier with trolley jack.
Unfasten left and right screw.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
Unscrew left and right bolts.
Remove front axle support.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
