SUBJECT
Optional Run-Flat Tires on Model Year 2003 7 Series

MODEL
E65/E66 7 Series

SITUATION
Because of a problem with the order specification process, early Model Year 2003 7 Series vehicles ordered with option 239 were produced with regular all-season 18" tires, not run-flat all-season tires.

The Product Planning and Strategy Department has issued the attached bulletin 03-7-04 dated 11-Dec- 02 to explain the situation. The text of this bulletin is summarized below:

"Starting MY2003 run-flat tires were offered as an option (239) on all 7 Series models. However, due to a problem with the specification process, vehicles equipped with option 239 have regular all-season tires, NOT run-flat tires. There has been a change in the ordering guide to correct this, option 584 18" alloy wheel (Styling 94) with all-season run-flat tires will replace option 239. Please note that the size and styling of the wheel remain identical."

"All 7 Series equipped with option 239 that are in inventory at present should be sold as they are, with regular all-season tires. Please explain to customers that those vehicles have regular all-season tires. In case of pressure loss in any of the tires he/she should use the spare tire or call Roadside Assistance as in any normal situation."

"Customers who have already taken delivery of a MY2003 7 Series equipped with option 239 will be contacted directly by BMW of North America and informed about the situation."

"Please make sure that customers taking delivery of a 7 Series equipped with option 239 are aware that they don't have run flat tires. Vehicles equipped with run-flat tires can be identified by the notation on the Monroney label."

CORRECTION
Affected customers who receive a letter (sample attached) from BMW of North America, LLC authorizing replacement of the all-season tires with run-flat all-season tires may contact your service department to have the repair performed. Only those customers that present an original letter are qualified to receive the replacement tires.

Due to the current shortage of the run-flat tires, an appointment should not be scheduled until the tires have been confirmed as available.
