SUBJECT
Retrofit of Manual Head Restraint Adjustment-Standard Seats
MODEL
E65 (7 Series)
SITUATION
Some owners of 7 Series vehicles produced prior to 9/02 and equipped with standard front seats may complain about the automatic operation of the head restraint when the front seat is moved forward and backward. The customers may also complain that the head restraints on their front seats cannot be adjusted to the desired position.
CORRECTION
The automatic operation of the head restraints was discontinued as of 9/02 production.
The head restraints can now be adjusted manually.
If a customer requests, the manual style head restraint mounting may be installed in cars produced prior to 9/02.
PROCEDURE
Replace both head restraint mountings per Repair Instructions, section 52 14 380. These instructions may be accessed in the E65 Repair Instructions by:
^ Click on Group 52 on the drop down menu
^ Click on subgroup 14 "front seat, normal, electric"
^ Click on RA 5214-"Overview of front seat (normal/electric)"
^ Click on item 1-"Head restraint/guide/mount"
^ Click on "Removing and installing/replacing head restraint mount on left or right front seat"
Note:
Since the drive cables and actuating unit are no longer needed they do not have to be reinstalled.
