SUBJECT
Reprogramming Comfort Seat Head Restraints

E65 745i, and E66 745Li

SITUATION
E65 and E66 vehicles produced prior to 9/02 with Comfort Seats, option code 456, are programmed so that the head restraint height will automatically adjust as the seat is moved forward or backward. The programming that adjusts the head restraint to a position that corresponds to the location of the seat track.

CORRECTION
As of 9/02 production, the seat programming has been changed to eliminate the automatic head restraint adjustment.

Vehicles produced prior to 9/02 may be reprogrammed to eliminate the automatic head restraint adjustment.

PROCEDURE
In case of a customer complaint, reprogram the seats using CIP 4.0 or higher.

1. From the DIS Plus or GT1 menu, select "Coding/Program".

2. BMW coding/programming selection: 8. E65/E66/E85.

3. Model series selection: F65/E66

4. Program Selection: 2. Load Software.

5. "Have Control Modules been replaced on this car?": No

6. Cancel update.

7. Control module selection: SMFA (Driver seat module)

8. Programming: Special Measure

9. Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

10. Repeat step 7, control module selection: SMBF (Passenger seat module)
