SUBJECT
Control Display Blank At High Ambient Temperatures

MODEL
E65, E66

Vehicles from start of production up to 02/2003

SITUATION
When the vehicle is parked outside in the sun for an extended period of time, the Control Display is blank after starting the vehicle. FC "E192" is stored in the fault memory of the Control Display.

CAUSE
There is an overheat protection function in the Control Display.

When the temperature in the Control Display is too high (cutout temperature), the control display switches off the MOST-bus to prevent damages.

The MOST-bus remains inoperative as long as the temperature inside the control display is above the cutout temperature.

CORRECTION
Raise the cutout temperature in the Control Display.

PROCEDURE
On a customer complaint basis only.

1. Connect diagnostic connector of DIS Plus/GT1 (loaded with CD32, or higher) to the vehicle.

2. Turn the ignition ON (KL 15)

3. Select "Diagnosis"

4. Select "Series 7 '_E65". Scroll right>

5. Select "Short test". After complete of short test scroll right

6. Select "Function selection" / Complete vehicle / Body / Display and Information Function / Control display function / Increase switch-off temperature

7. Select "Test plan"

8. Select "Increase switch-off temperature B6582_60035" to change the switch-off temperature of the Control Display. Scroll right





9. Select "YES". Scroll right





10. Select "2. Check increased cutout temperature" to change the switch-off temperature. Scroll right

11. To end the test module select "4.End test module". Scroll right and follow the on-screen instructions.

[NEW] NOTE:
Updating the vehicle with CIP9.0 or later ($1 BQ9~04~ will set the cutout temperature back to the standard cutout temperature. The cutout temperature must be increased again.
