NOTE:
- When cementing the rear window, cements for cold and hot processing are permitted.
- Removing and installing rear window button.
- Removing and installing spray nozzle for rear window wiper.
- Removing and installing additional brake light.
Cold processing:
Comply with instructions on cementing windows.
Warm processing:
Open rear end of aluminum membrane in cartridge before installing in cartridge oven.
Heat cement cartridges to 80 °C for one hour in oven (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
Comply with instructions on cementing windows.
Disconnect connector (1 ... 3) and pull off lug (4).

Withdraw connector (1 ... 4) from rear window frame (5) and secure to rear window with adhesive tape (6).
Open tailgate.
Slide protective cover (1) between rear window frame and body and secure with adhesive tape.
Place a support between rear window frame and trunk lid (e.g. special tool 00 9 312) and secure it with adhesive tape.
Attach fabric adhesive tape (2) at top between rear window and rear window frame. Attach fabric adhesive tape to the edges (3) at three points.
The rear window is cut out with two different lengths of blade (risk of damage).
(A) Length of blade 24 mm at top
(B) Length of blade 36 mm along side and bottom
NOTE: First of all, cut at the top (A).
Fit knife (24 mm blade length, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) to the tool.
NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine with a grinding stone (even with new knife blade).
Carefully insert knife blade between rear window frame and rear window.
Guide web of knife parallel to rear window.
CAUTION:
- When reusing the rear window:
- Avoid damaging lines for rear window heating/antenna.
Cut through cement bead as close as possible to top of rear window.

Fit knife (36 mm blade length, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) to the tool.
NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine with a grinding stone (even with new knife blade).
Cut through cement bead down sides and bottom edge (B).
Remove support and/or special tool 00 9 312.
Unfasten (1 and 2) Velcro fasteners:
Attach special tool 51 3 010 to rear window (as far outside as possible) (dampen the suction surfaces).
Unfasten left burr fastener (1):
Carefully insert special tool 00 9 318 between rear window and rear window frame but do not press into centre of rear window (this would break the window).
Press special tool 00 9 318 downwards (against rear window frame) and pull rear window upwards with special tool 51 3 010.
Unfasten right burr fastener (2) in the same way and remove rear window with special tool 51 3 010.
Apply cement bead to rear window frame (thickness of approx. 0.5 mm).
To avoid damage to paintwork on rear window frame, carefully cut away residue with scalpel.
Pull off adhesive tapes all round.
CAUTION: To provide long-term corrosion protection, always touch up damage to paintwork (scratches and large areas of damage).
Only if rear window is reused:
Cut away residue of external seal (1) and cement bead (2) on the rear window to a thickness of approx. 0.5 mm.
To avoid damage to the rear window, carefully cut away cement residue with scalpel.
If defective, attach new burr tape (3) (Dual-Lock tape) to the edges.
Only if rear window is reused:
Attach soft rubber (sourcing reference BMW Parts Service) to chamfer (4) at sides and bottom of rear window.
Secure wires for rear window heating and antenna with adhesive tape.
CAUTION: The basic filler must have hardened:
Treat rear window and body beside cemented area with BMW-approved materials (repair kit, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
NOTE: Note ventilation time:
Attach spacer bracket (1) (4-edge buffer).
If defective, fit new burr tape (1) (Dual-Lock tape) to the edges.
Use special nozzle.
Cut nozzle to size.
(A) = 7 mm
(B) = 9...11 mm
NOTE: To apply uniform cement bead, use cartridge pistol (operated by compressed air or electric power, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
Check expiry date of cement.
If applicable, produce a sample bead before cementing.
Cartridge must be arranged vertically against rear window.
CAUTION:
- Version with rear window antenna:
- No cement must be applied to contacts on rear window heating/antenna.
Shape of cement bead:
(A) = 7 mm
(B) = 9...11 mm
CAUTION: Apply cement bead swiftly because skin formation time of cement is max. 10 minutes.
Application point of cement bead at point (1).
Apply cement bead at a distance (A ... C) to rear window edge.
(A) = side 16 mm
(B) = bottom 16 mm
(C) = top 10 mm
Install rear window with special tool 51 3 010, centre and insert edges (1) in the burr tapes (Dual-Lock tape).
CAUTION: Remove dirt from residual cement with Sika-Entferner208 (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) before cement is hard. Do not press out rear window glass again for this purpose. Hardened cement can only be removed by machine.
Assemble car.
NOTE: Leaks can be found by spraying water on the sealing lips or with an ultrasonic leak detector and then eliminated by using a suitable nozzle.
