Replacing Two Rubber Mounts For Rear Axle Carrier
Caution!
Pull retainer off air supply unit to ensure that accidental feedback control of the system cannot occur.
Unfasten exhaust system from rear support.
Unfasten handbrake Bowden cable from brackets.
If necessary, remove connector from ride height sensor.
Remove left and right trim panels.
Remove wheels.
Support rear axle with workshop hoist.
Unscrew left and right screws (1) and lower rear axle approx. 40...45 mm.
M57:
If necessary, mark fitted damping disks.
Installation:
The rubber-coated detent plate (2) must be installed at the rear in the driving direction.
M5:
A damping disk must be fitted on both front rubber mounts. Fit damping disk so that it is positively connected.
M57:
Reinstall marked damping disks.
Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension/Specifications.
Note: Hydraulic rubber mounts may be fitted on cars with M57 engines. In this case, rubber mount removal is identical to the Touring model.
Prepare special tool 33 4 140/151/154/155. Fit special tool 33 4 140 to recesses in rubber mount.
Use a hot air blower with outlet temperature of max. 600 °C, heat bearing bush for approx. 2 minutes (equivalent to approx. 80 °C on bearing bush) and remove the rubber mount.
Caution!
When rubber mount is fitted, arrows (1) must point down longitudinal axis of vehicle.
Coat rubber mount with Circolight anti-friction agent, refer to BMW Parts Service.
Draw rubber mount firmly home with special tool 33 4 152/153/154/155.
