Torque Converter: Service and Repair
Note:
E46 Remove and install automatic transmission, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Service and Repair.
E39 Remove and install automatic transmission, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Service and Repair.
After completing work, top up ATF level.
Check/top up fluid level in automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Fluid, Service and Repair.
It is absolutely essential to use the approved automatic transmission fluid in this automatic transmission.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!
Screw special tool 24 4 000 into the torque converter.
Remove torque converter.
Note: When torque converter is removed, transmission oil flows out.
Note: When installing, avoid that radial seal and bearing are damaged.
If the torque converter is not correctly installed, the driver of the pump impeller may be damaged when the transmission is flanged to the engine.
Remove torque converter and set down vertically.
Replace O-ring (1).
Push torque converter through radial seal onto transmission shaft up to stop.
Manually push and turn the torque converter into the converter bell housing until the recess of the converter hub rests in the drive plate of the pump wheel and the torque converter perceptibly slides in.
Determine distance between contact surface and surface (1) of tapped hole in torque converter with special tool 00 2 550.
Torque converter is correctly installed when distance is greater than 30 mm.
