1999 E38/E39 Accessory Navigation Installation Update

MODEL:
E38, E39 (except E39 sport wagon)

Situation:
The current E38/E39 Accessory Navigation Kit P/N 65 90 9 408 775 can not be fully installed into 1999 vehicles due to changes in the vehicle door harness wiring.

Vehicles Affected:
1999 E38/E39 (except E39 sport wagon)

Correction:
Do not install the "Audio Switch-over Module" assembly as described in the installation instructions Section 7 (Installing Supplementary Cable Harnesses). Instead, install a 3" speaker in the trim panel above driver's foot pedals and modify the kit wiring harnesses to connect the speaker.

Note:
These procedures are valid for 1999 E38/E39 with and without DSP.

Procedure:
Revised Section 7 Instructions (Installing Supplementary Cable Harnesses):

1. Do not follow the installation instructions for disconnecting the driver's door connector X18196. Do not install the switch-over module assembly "C" Note: The switch-over module assembly "C" will not be used.

2. Remove trim panel from above driver's foot pedals.




3. For E38 vehicles, cut a 3" hole (2) into trim panel (1) as shown. Install the speaker (3) into the panel with locking ring (4). Trim back the panel backing as necessary to fully seat the locking ring.
A=110 mm B=130 mm C=76.2 mm




4. For E39 vehicles, cut a 3" hole (2) into the trim panel (1). Install the speaker (3) into the panel with locking ring (4). Trim back the panel backing as necessary to fully seat locking ring.
A=90 mm B=55 mm C=76.2 mm




5. Modify the Power Cable Assembly (A) (included in the kit) harness, branch A9.




6. Remove the black connector cover (2) from Branch A9 (1).




7. Install the yellow connector cover (3) onto Branch A9.




8. Modify the Signal/Monitor Cable (B) (included in the kit) harness, branch B5 (white/brown wire)




9. Remove the female pin (2) from Branch B5 (1).




10. Prep the wire end and using an appropriate crimp toot, crimp the male pin(2) (P/N 6113 1 376 191) onto the wire. Insert the pin (2) into position no.2 of the connector (3) (P/N 6113 1 378 106).

11. Route branch Al 0, and modified branches A9 and B5 to the lower kick panel area on driver's side. Connect branch A9 to the 3" speaker installed in the trim panel above the foot pedals. Connect branch Al 0 to branch B5.

Note:
Should the customer require the radio not be muted when the navigation system is providing an instruction then do not connect branch Al 0 to branch B5.

12. Continue the installation (Section 7) Instructions with the steps that begin working with connector X322
