Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Removing And Installing Or Replacing Starter (M52TU)

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery,

Disconnect and cover battery negative lead.







Remove intake filter housing, please refer to Vehicle/ Powertrain Management/ Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/ Air Cleaner Housing/ Service and Repair/ Procedures Service and Repair

Disconnect plug connection (1) from air-mass flow sensor.
Pull vacuum line (2) out of intake hose.
Release hose clamp (3).







Pull Bowden cable upwards out of holder (1) and disconnect from throttle valve actuator.

Installation:
Adjust Bowden cable for throttle valve actuator, please refer to Vehicle/ Powertrain Management/ Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/ Throttle Cable/Linkage/ Adjustments Adjustments








Release hose clamps (1).
Pull intake hose section from throttle valve body and idle actuator.







If fitted:
Remove engine guard (1 and 2).







To improve access to starter, remove fuel hoses (1 and 2).


Important!
Removal, installation and closing of fuel lines is described in the Replacing fuel hoses, refer to: Service Precautions







Installation:
Clip fuel hoses (1 and 2) into holder (3).







Release nuts (1) and remove lines.

Installation:
Tightening Torque,





Simplest way to remove starter mounting bolts:
Release starter mounting bolts from transmission output end with a long extension and a universal joint.

Installation:
Tightening Torque,










Pull starter (1) out of drive flange. Make sure that sealing surfaces of the fuel lines (2) do not become damaged.







Remove starter (1) from fuel lines in downward motion.







Installation:
Check starter pinion and starter star gear for damage.
Disassemble and reassemble starter.
