Z3 from the production start up to 04/24/97
Situation:
Up to the 04/24/97 production, the Z3 audio standard system consisted of a 6 x 20 Watt amplifier and a set of 6 speakers.
In response to customer suggestions, BMW has developed an upgrade for the sound system, which can be retrofitted as a customer pay item upon customer request. This specially priced upgrade package can be installed in vehicles with standard 6 speaker system or in vehicles with 6 speaker system with factory installed subwoofer (option 673).
Note:
This upgrade does not apply to the factory installed 8 speaker system in production since 04/24/97, nor the Harman Kardon system which has been available since 05/97, nor to vehicles which have already been upgraded as described in SI 65 19 96 (kit consisting of: subwoofer, 2 mid range speakers and amplifier).
This upgrade kit (P/N 99 00 0 000 533) consists of the following:
-- two midrange speakers
-- matching amplifier
-- precut wiring harness for ease of installation
The kit is priced at $ 150.00 MSRP plus 2.0 hours installation. There is an initial amplifier core charge (P/N 86 00 0 000 061-Amplifier Core) of $ 30.00, which will be credited to your account upon return to the appropriate USCO center.
In order to offer this sound system upgrade to all Z3 owners of vehicles manufactured prior to April '97, BMW of North America, Inc. will be notifying all such owners via direct mail about the availability of a speaker retrofit kit. The first mailing of 5000 letters will begin the first week of September to be followed in stages thereafter until all owners on record have been notified.
Also, in August all BMW Retail Centers received information announcing the introduction of the Z3 sound system upgrade. Included in that mailing were: a copy of the customer letter, Z3 Accessories Brochure, and a Parts Bulletin 65 03 97.
