7 Series (E38) A/C Refrigerant Charge Reduction
MODEL:
E38 - 11/97 and later production
Situation:
E38s produced 11/97 and later have a reduced A/C refrigerant charge.
Cause:
Charge label for E38's produced before 11/97
Charge label for E38's produced 11/97 and later
The refrigerant charge has been reduced from 1210 +/- 25 grams to 680 +/- 20 grams due to the introduction of a new style drier. The refrigerant charge label, on vehicles produced after 11/97 has been changed to reflect the new charge (see illustrations).
It is important to note the production date of the vehicle before performing A/C service or ordering A/C parts for the E38. The driers can not be interchanged.
