SUBJECT:
DME Fault Code 41 - Air Mass Meter

MODELS:
M3 produced 3/1/94 - 11/25/94

Complaint:
Check engine lamp is illuminated and fault code 41 is set in the DME control module.

Correction:
If fault code 41 is set under the following conditions:

^ Engine RPM > 5500 and

^ Accelerator pedal position > 65% and

^ Vehicle was operated at high altitude.

Replace the DME EPROM as indicated in this bulletin. Reprogram the EPROM using the latest MoDiC programming software disks (A & B) version 5.1 or higher.

If fault code 41 is set under conditions different than those indicated above, check the air flow meter and the associated wiring for a short or open.

REPLACEMENT EPROM DETERMINATION AND PROGRAMMING

The information provided in this bulletin is to serve as a guide/reference when using MoDiC programming software version 5.1 or higher (refer to section 15 of your IDC binder for the latest software information), whenever a DME EPROM or control module is to be replaced and programmed.
