Navigation System Diagnostic with DIS CD Version 12.0
MODEL:
E39 (5 Series), E38 (7 Series) with Nav System
Situation I:
On vehicles with Navigation System (Mk1 and Mk2), it is possible now to select 3 out of 5 languages. Also, on vehicles equipped with Mk2 system only (from 9/97 production), the announcement voice can be changed between "male" and "female". This can be done by using DIS coding program "Coding ZCS C 12.0" and Navigation System operating software CD V05.
Procedure:
Using the DIS Coding/Programming:
1. Select 1 ZCS Coding
2. Select appropriate engineering series (E38, or E39)
3. Select 4 Conversions
4. Select 3 IKE/KOMBI
5. Select 2 Language
The encoding program detects whether a navigation system is installed in the vehicle and allows selection of: 3 languages (Mk1 system), or 3 languages and announcer voice (Mk2 system).
6. At prompt "Is the CD-ROM present?" select "Yes", but do not insert CD V05 into the Nav Computer yet!
7. First select the main language and then two additional (the choices are: English, French, Italian, Spanish, German)
8. For Mk2 system only, select announcer voice: male or female
9. After activation of the automatic coding, the DIS Tester tells you to follow the instructions on the on-board monitor for CD V05 installation
10. At this point remove CD Map from Nav Computer, and insert CD V05.
Important:
Do not switch ignition off during software loading procedure. Do not use any other Nav Software CD's except CD V05.
11. Once loading has been completed, remove the CD and then confirm completion by pressing the rotary push-button on the board monitor
12. After the IKE coding has been completed, print new ZCS coding label and affix it to the vehicle
13. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds, then turn it on and conduct a functional check.
Situation II:
On E38 (7 Series) vehicles manufactured between May and September of '97 equipped with Mark 1 System, the DIS CD 12.0 (as well as CD 11.0) diagnostic program does not detect the navigation equipment status, and does not allow to access the Navigation test modules.
Cause:
Error in diagnostic program of CD version 12.0
Affected Vehicles:
E38 with Mk1 Nav System produced between 05/97 and 09/97
Correction:
This fault will be rectified with the issue of CD V 13.0.
In the meantime, diagnosis is possible after conducting a manual vehicle determination.
Procedure:
When diagnosing Navigation System on the affected vehicle:
^ Select vehicle manually as: 5' E39, 540i A_M62LIM, USA_LHD 1997_3
^ Select Body
^ Select Body Electrical System
^ Select Information and Display System
^ Select IKE-Cluster Electronics (High) and BM On-board monitor
^ Select On-board Monitor System
^ Select Navigation
^ Connect diagnostic plug and turn ignition on
^ Select Test Schedule
^ Conduct diagnostics
