SUBJECT:
Diagnosis of IKE and Other Control Modules Cannot Be Performed
MODELS:
7 Series (E38) Produced 7/95 and later
Situation:
(1) Diagnosis of IKE, and of the control modules connected to it through the K-Bus and I-Bus, cannot be performed.
(2) IKE control module cannot be coded after having been replaced. (Failure message in coding program: "No coding Data Available For This Control Unit Version")
Cause:
As of 7/95 an IKE control module with the following identification was installed:
Hardware: 07
Software: 12
This IKE control module cannot be identified with the current Diagnostic Program; therefore, there no communication possible with the control modules that are connected over the K-Bus and I-Bus (see Complaint 1 above).
Coding of this IKE control module can be performed with Coding Program "ZCS V. 13.0."
Note:
An older IKE control module cannot be installed in a vehicle which already has an IKE control module with the above-mentioned hardware and software status (see Complaint 2 above). Such an older module can no longer be coded.
Correction:
With the release of the Diagnostic Program contained in CD 05, these IKE control modules can be identified, thereby establishing communication with other control modules connected over the K-Bus and I-Bus. This CD will be available in September 1995.
If it is absolutely necessary to diagnose one of these vehicles, an older IKE control module can be temporarily installed. This IKE control module does not have to be coded during this temporary installation.
