SUBJECT:
Improved Software for CMT 5000VR Phone On Vehicles with MK II Nav System

MODEL:
E38, E39 with BMW Navigation System Mark II
manufactured after September 1, 1997

Situation:
On some vehicles with Mark II Navigation System and optional CMT 5000VR phone installed, the automatic "Mayday" feature is inoperative when the "Emergency" test phone call is performed.

Cause:
Software incompatibility between the Interface Box of the Mobile CMT 5000VR phone and the CC-96 Navigation Computer, if the phone kit P/N 84 111 470 100 (with Interface Box version SW01) has been installed on MK II Nav vehicle.

When installing the optional CMT 5000VR phone in the Mark II Navigation vehicle, only P/N 84 11 1 470 250 kit containing the upgraded Interface Box software (SW 02) should be used.

Correction:
Please, check your records to find out if the CMT 5000VR phone kits P/N 84 11 1 470 100 have been installed in Mark II Nav vehicles (production after September 1, 1997).

In such a case, please notify the customer and arrange an appointment to correct the deficiency.

On an affected vehicle, identify the software version of the CMT 5000VR phone Interface Box. If the displayed software version is SW01, replace the Interface Box EPROM following the attached instructions.

Place the new label over the old one on the cover of the Interface Box and replace the CMT 5000VR owner's manual with the new one. Both the label and the manual come with the EPROM kit (P/N 99 00 0 00 925).
