SUBJECT:
Hands Free Operation Inoperative in Vehicles Equipped with the CPT 6OOOVR Phones
MODEL:
75OiL, 74OiL, 74Oi
Situation:
The following symptoms may be observed:
^ Hands Free feature does not work. Call can be initiated in Hands Free mode but conversation is only possible with handset out of cradle (Hands on mode).
^ Call does not terminate when the handset is returned to the Eject Box.
^ Hands Free volume adjustment does not work. Handset speaker volume adjustment functions normally.
Cause:
The adhesive securing the On Hook Detection Magnet to the underside of the handset flap in the Eject Box may not have cured properly. This will allow the magnet to separate from its mounting location and become attached to one of the metal springs that operate the flap.
Correction:
If any or all of the above symptoms are observed, inspect the Eject Box for the correct magnet installation
With the Eject Box flap in the upper position look under the flap, down to its pivot point.
In its normal location, magnet is glued to the right side of the flap (passenger side of the vehicle).
If the magnet can be seen attached to either the center or left side (drivers side of the vehicle) spring, replace the Eject Box.
Important:
Do not attempt to disassemble the Eject Box and glue the magnet to its location.
It is recommended to check all Eject Boxes before they are installed in a vehicle.
Note:
As a verification to a visual inspection you can use the procedure shown:
^ Unlatch the flap, so it moves into the upper position.
^ Take a small (5 mm) steel washer and place it on the handset side of the flap, over the area where the magnet is supposed to be located.
^ If the magnet is in its proper location the washer will stay in place. If the magnet has fallen from its mounting location and become attached to one of the flap springs, the washer will not stay in place.
