Service Maintenance
Since the drivetrain and most other equipment of the 318ti is identical to those of other 318i/is models, the service requirements for the 318i also pertain to the 318ti. Refer to S.I. OO O5 93 (3769) dated September 1995.^ Quality Certification II (QC II) does not apply to the 318ti;
^ Visually inspect the front control arm bushing for wear during Inspection I;
^ Engine coolant replacement interval is three years (Inspection I);
^ It is no longer recommended/required to replace the fuel filters (Inspection II);
^ The rear axle synthetic oil change interval has been extended to every second Inspection II;
^ It is no longer necessary to check the condition of the drive belts at Inspection II.
Use the "318i" column of the Service Maintenance Checklist # SD92-O44 ("1995 models as of 9/94 Production") for the 318ti.
The only maintenance item unique to the 318ti is to check the function of the rear window wiper and washer during QC I, Inspection I and II. The washer fluid is supplied to the rear window from the same reservoir which serves the front windshield washers. This reservoir, located in the engine compartment, has a 5 liter (approx. 5.3 qt.) capacity.
The ventilation system microfilters are to be exchanged during Inspection I. On the 318ti, the two filters are accessed from the engine compartment by removing the air inlet bulkhead panel at the cowl.
The Service/Warranty booklet for the 318ti is the same as for all other 1995 3 Series (item SD92-048).
