General Information:
The 318ti (abbreviation for Touring Internationale) is a new three door rear wheel drive coupe based on the E36 chassis. It is identical to the E36 318i sedan from the cowl forward and uses the same front sheet metal parts. The doors are based on the E36 coupe but are actually slightly longer due to the full frames around the windows.





The most distinctive feature of the 318ti is the short rear body section, which makes the 318ti 23 cm (approx. 9") shorter than the E36 sedan. The third door provides access to the cargo area, which can be expanded by folding the rear seatbacks down for extra versatility. The third door extends almost down to the top of the rear bumper to minimize cargo lift-over height. Since the 318ti shares the same wheelbase length as other E36 models, the overall interior space and legroom is comparable to that of other E36 models. The 318ti weighs approximately 200 pounds less than a 318i sedan.

The 318ti shares the same 1.8 liter, 138 hp 4-cylinder engine (M42) as the 318i sedan, and is offered with the same choice of transmissions: 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
