Replacing Shift Unit
Removing and installing/replacing shift unit (A5S 440Z)
Remove transmission oil sump.
Brace clamping bush (1) and loosen nut (2).
Installation:
Adjust shift lever.
Lift out retaining plate (1) with a screwdriver.
Remove cable (2) from bracket.
Unlock and remove cable connector (1).
Press retaining clip (1) to right and detach from plug housing (2).
Press plug housing (1) into transmission.
Installation:
The turning lock (1) of the plug housing must engage in the guide groove (2) of the transmission housing.
Installation:
Replace 0-rings (1).
To aid installation, coat 0-rings (1) with petroleum jelly.
Release screw, remove retainer (1) and pulse generator (2) from transmission housing.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications
Release screws and remove oil filter (1) from shift unit.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications
Replace 0-ring (1) of oil filter (2) and coat with petroleum jelly.
Unscrew bolts (1).
Installation:
Torx screws M6 x 30 (5 x).
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
Release all screws with large heads except for one screw in center of shift unit. Grip shift unit, release last screw and remove shift unit from transmission housing.
Installation;
Torx screws M6 x 60 (17 x).
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications
Installation:
When installing shift unit, insert journal (1) of locating disk into groove of slide valve (2).
Installation:
The dowel pin of the shift unit must engage in the bore (1) in the transmission housing.
Installation:
Observe dowel pin: it must be in the shift unit.
