Control Panel

IHKR1 CONTROL PANEL

Heating and air conditioning functions are controlled using the buttons, slide levers, and knobs on the control panel. The control panel also houses the interior temperature sensor.

FUNCTION BUTTONS

REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER BUTTON: Pressing this button activates the rear window defroster.

A/C COMPRESSOR BUTTON: Pressing the "snowflake" button sends an A/C compressor "on" request to the control module so long as the blower speed knob is in position "1" or higher.

RECIRCULATING AIR BUTTON: Pressing this button tells the control module to close the fresh air flaps and open the recirculating air flaps. It also sends an A/C compressor "on", request to the control module.

AIR DISTRIBUTION SLIDE LEVERS

TOP SLIDE LEVER: Operates a bowden cable to control air flow to the windshield and front door glass defroster outlets.

MIDDLE SLIDE LEVER: Operates a bowden cable to control air flow from the instrument panel top, instrument panel front, and front door outlets (the face-level outlets).

BOTTOM SLIDE LEVER: Operates a potentiometer inside the control panel to control air flow from the left and right side footwell and rear floor outlets.

DESIRED TEMPERATURE KNOBS

Separate knobs allow independent temperature regulation on the left and right sides of the cabin. Each knob drives a potentiometer inside the control panel.

The numbers that appear around the knobs do not indicate actual cabin temperature - they correspond to a general comfort level.

BLOWER SPEED KNOB

The blower speed knob drives a potentiometer inside the control panel and performs several functions:

Moving the knob to position "0" turns off the IHKR system.

Positions "1," "2," "3," and "4" select blower speeds from very low to maximum.

The control module also uses the voltage signal from the blower speed potentiometer knob to control fresh air intake flap position. As the blower speed knob is rotated through the "wedge" symbol, the fresh air flaps open progressively.

INTERIOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

The interior temperature sensor is located behind an air intake grille on the control panel face.

A small electric fan, mounted on the back of the control panel, continuously draws air over the sensor to enhance sensor accuracy

MAXIMUM DEFROSTING ICON

The maximum defrosting icon shows how to position the control panel knobs and slide levers for the most effective windshield defrosting.
