REMOVAL1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor harness connector.
2. Remove the oxygen sensor lead from the body holders.
3. Unscrew the exhaust pipes at the exhaust manifolds.
Catalytic Converter Removal:
4. Support the Catalytic converter with an appropriate device.
5. Unscrew the exhaust carrier bolt at the transmission bracket.
6. Remove the exhaust flange bolts at the rear of the catalytic converter.
7. Lower the catalytic converter.
INSTALLATION
Catalytic Converter Removal:
1. Lubricate tapers of exhaust flanges with copper paste, or equivalent.
2. Install new rear exhaust flange seals.
3. Lift the converter into place.
4. Mount the transmission carrier without tension. Do not tighten at this time.
5. Install the converter-muffler flange bolts. Do not tighten at this time.
6. Install springs and nuts (1 and 2) at front exhaust flange. Do not tighten at this time.
7. Torque converter-muffler flange bolts uniformly to 16 ft. lbs.
8. Compress springs (2), uniformly by tightening nuts (1), to 7 ft. lbs.
9. Loosen nuts (1), by one and one half turns. Flanges should be parallel with each other and the springs must not be compressed flat.
10. Torque the transmission exhaust carrier bracket to 16 ft. lbs.
11. Reconnect oxygen sensor and reposition harness in body holders.
12. Check for exhaust leaks and correct exhaust assembly alignment.
