Defect Code 301:

Malfunctions:

- Starting Inrush of A/C compressor too high

- Sporadic cut-out when Idling

- No Increase in idle speed

- Engine cannot be turned off when air conditioning switched on

Vehicles with manual transmission and without air conditioning system:

In order to achieve perfect idle characteristics, a diode module increases the idle speed of the engine when at operating temperature from 800 rpm to 900 rpm as electrical loads such as rear window defogger, low beam and fog lights or fan stage 4.

This diode module1 colour blue, part number 61 35 8 351 298, is plugged in a black. 9-pin relay socket whose chamber 3 is not used. Installation location: Left A-post behind footwell speaker.

Vehicle with automatic or manual transmission and with air conditioning system:

For reasons of greater convenience, the A/C compressor in these vehicles is connected via the air conditioning delay control unit, part number 61 35 1 394 114, colour black. With the engine at operating temperature1 the idle speed is increased from 800 rpm to 840 rpm.

Installation location:

- 520VA: Power distribution box

- 525iIA: Left A-post, behind footwell speaker In a black 9-pin relay socket whose chambers 1, 3 and 9 are not used.

The diode module, part number 61 35 8351 298 must not be installed in automatic vehicles and vehicles with air conditioning system.
