Transmission

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove exhaust system.
2. Remove heat shield and exhaust mounting brackets.
3. Loosen joint disc on transmission.
4. Loosen clamping sleeve several turns using removal tool No. 26 1 040 or equivalent.
5. Loosen center mount bolts, then bend down propeller shaft on center mount and pull off of centering pin on transmission or final drive. Do not allow propeller shaft to fall into joints.
6. Suspend propeller shaft from vehicle with wire.
7. Pull off retainer, washer and remove shift rod.
8. Remove clutch slave cylinder mounting bolts, leaving pressure pipes connected.
9. Pull wires off of reverse bear switch and loosen oxygen sensor plug holder.
10. Remove air collection box.
11. Support rear of engine and loosen crossmember bolts. Install engine support tool No. 00 0 200 or equivalent, to crankcase lifting eye.
12. Tighten tool spindle to support weight of engine.
13. Remove the injection pipe cover.
14. Support rear of engine and loosen crossmember bolts, then install engine support tool No. 11 0 030 or equivalent from above through intake manifold in the holder on the crankcase.
15. Install engine support tool No. 00 0 200 or equivalent, to engine and tighten spindle to support weight of engine.
16. Remove crossmember with rubber mounts. Lower transmission by turning spindle. Ensure there is no contact with engine compartment wall or heater connections. Remove transfer case.
17. Disconnect gear selector lever.
18. Loosen transmission to engine mounting bolts.
19. Remove transmission toward rear of vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten bolts and nuts to specifications.
