SUBJECT:
E32 Engine Design Changes
ENGINE:
M30 (P/N 11 00 1 714 359)
Situation:
Beginning with 10/87 production, two design changes were phased-in on the subject engine. These changes can alter the engine installation procedure.
Changes:
1) The stud used to mount the cooling hose bracket to the lower timing chain cover has been eliminated. Should this attachment be required, transfer the timing cover from the old to the replacement engine.
2) Some replacement engines are supplied with oil filter housings designed for use with an engine oil cooler. However, the vehicle may or may not be so equipped. If necessary, transfer the oil filter assembly from the old to the replacement engine.
Special
Notes:
During any engine exchange, the determination of which components require transfer as well as actual transfer work must be done prior to installing the engine in the vehicle.
Whenever components are transferred from old to replacement engines, measures should be taken to insure that the fresh engine is not "contaminated". These measures would include thorough washing, blowing out with moderate compressed air and a comprehensive visual inspection for any residues or fragments from the previous engine.
