SUBJECT: Tank Characteristic Line for BC IV

MODELS: 5 Series (E34), 7 Series (E32) - Vehicles Produced Between 9/90 and 8/91 Inclusive


Situation: In the above listed vehicles, the tank characteristic line for the BC IV (data contained in the coding plug of the instrument cluster) is substantially nonlinear in the upper and lower areas. The deviation (approx. 10 liters) in both areas is on the safe side; i.e., both "range" and the test functions for fuel level display a lower value.

The fuel level gauge in the instrument cluster is accurate, however. It is therefore unlikely that complaints will be received.

Correction: There is currently no correction.

Replacement of the BC IV, coding plug, or cluster will not correct this situation. Such repair attempts will not be covered under warranty.

If such complaints are encountered, please complete a Quality Observation Report (pink sheet) and submit it to the Service Engineering Department.
