SUBJECT: Jack Replacement
MODELS: E34
Situation: It has been determined that the jacks supplied by one manufacturer for E34 (during the period from November 26, 1990 until February 1991) may be defective. The defect could cause the jack to be unable to lift the car or to lower the car once it has been lifted.
The jacks were manufactured by Tubsa, and were only installed in approximately 20% of the vehicles produced in this period.
In order to locate and replace the affected jacks, we are conducting a Service Action.
Vehicles
Involved: The vehicles involved are within the chassis number ranges listed below.
Chassis Ranges
525i BF 94835 BF 94971
525iA BJ 61011 BJ 62610
535i BF 11805 BF 11878
535iA BF 71580 BF 71852
M5 BK O5844 BK O5960
Action: If a vehicle is involved in this action, check the manufacturer of the jack by looking in the area indicated by the arrow.
If the jack is a Tubsa it should be replaced. If the jack is made by any other manufacturer, no further action is required.
Due to the fact that jacks are not normally stocked at the dealer level, it is not necessary to order a supply of jacks for this campaign. It is suggested that if a vehicle is found where the jack requires replacement (estimated to be no more than 20% of the cars affected) the customer should be advised not to use the jack until a replacement is received, and order the part at that time.
Since all affected cars are under the Roadside Assistance Program, there should not be any inconvenience to the customer. When the part arrives, notify the customer, and replace the jack when the customer brings the car in.

Label
Instructions: This Service Action has been assigned code number 52. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 89-006) and:
a) emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label.
b) punch out code number 52 printed on the label.
c) bend label to crease an edge and remove the backing paper. Then affix it to the B pillar as shown.
If the car already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix this label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched out hole of the new label.
Warranty
Status: Covered under the terms of the BMW New Car Limited Warranty. Reimbursement for this action will be through Campaign Entry.
