Montvale, NJ March 1988 Technical Dept.
SUBJECT: Windshield Wiper Pressure Control (ADV)

MODELS: E32 All

Complaint: The Wiper Pressure Control (ADV) continuously operates at full pressure.

Situation: The General Module controls and monitors the Wiper Pressure Control (ADV) Relay. If the General Module receives an improper monitoring signal it will energize the ADV relay into a safety mode.

In this safety mode the contacts for pressure application are constantly closed. The pressure control motor is driven to its maximim pressure position.

The ADV relay and pressure control motor will remain energized at all times until the system is reset following the procedures given below.

Resetting
Procedure: ^ Remove fuse 22 for 15 seconds.
^ Reinstall fuse 22.

The ADV relay will now be de-energized. To return the pressure control motor to its rest position the vehicle must be driven over 3 m.p.h.

Note:
If the ADV relay is removed while performing work on the vehicle, the above situation will occur. To avoid this, remove fuse 22 prior to the removal of the ADV relay.
