IHKA (Climate Control) Defroster Flap Setting

E32
Situation:
You may receive a customer complaint that the windshield fogs up along the bottom while the system is set on AUTO.
Cause:
The defroster flap may be incorrectly positioned thereby not allowing adequate air flow to the windshield while in this mode.
Correction:
A - Remove trim panels beneath the steering column and on the left side of the center console.
B - Turn ignition to "RUN" and depress the "DEFROST" button.
C - Disconnect the control rod from the defroster lever.
D - Hold the defroster lever in the fully open position (refer to illustration). The end of the control rod should line-up with hole in the defroster lever.
If the control rod is out of adjustment, proceed with the Adjustment Procedure.
Adjustment Procedure:
If the control rod is non-adjustable replace it with a new adjustable rod P/N 64 11 1 388 535.
Hold the defrost flap in the fully open position and adjust the control rod so it corresponds to the hole in the defroster lever.
Warranty Status:
Covered under the BMW New Car Limited Warranty of 3 Years/36,000 Miles.
