Curiosii for ever!: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Special Notes

Testing The locking action of the viscous clutch units increase as friction power increases. The temperature of the viscous fluid will also rise accordingly. Unapproved testing and/or workshop practices could subject the viscous units to unusually high loads with the immediate result of severe damage.

The Group 27 repair manual test procedures and cautions must be followed exactly as stated or viscous clutch damage will occur.

Engine performance test dynos, by design, are only intended for use with single axle drive vehicles. BMW All-Wheel Drive cars must never be tested on equipment of this type.

Tire Chains The 325iX body has been modified in the areas of the rear axle, transmission tunnel and the spring strut towers to accommodate the specific All-Wheel Drive components. Be advised that due to unchanged front wheelhouse dimensions and the wide spectrum of front wheel movement, tire chains are not approved for front wheel use. However, adequate space exists in the rear wheel area, therefore, tire chain installation is approved for the rear wheels only.

Towing The BMW All-Wheel Drive vehicle may only be towed when all four wheels rotate at the same speed. Should it be necessary to tow with one axle raised, the drive shaft of the remaining road contact axle must be disconnected.

Tires Optimal handling and traction can only be realized by using tires of identical brand and tread design. Should a change be required, all tires should be changed to the new brand and type.

The U.S. market 325iX is equipped with BMW AG approved optional tires and wheels which differ in dimensions from the spare tire and wheel. (A M & S winter tire is also approved for use.) Should spare tire usage be required, a maximum vehicle speed of 55 mph should not be exceeded. Further, the spare tire and wheel should only be used until the regular or winter tire and wheel can be re-installed.
