REPAIR PROCEDURE
1) Remove the front bumper following the procedures in the workshop manual.
2) Open the harness, cutting the .5 BL/RT and .5 BR/GR wires as shown in illustration # 1.
3) Connect the two wires in the repair harness P/N 61 13 8 350 119 as shown.
4) Strip away about 1/2" of insulation on each wire.
Note: If the wire is corroded cut the wire further back on the harness until non-corroded wire can be found.
5) Place a shrink tube (supplied with the repair harness) over one of the wires being spliced before overlapping the wires.
6) Overlap the wires and crimp one of the splice clips (supplied with the repair harness) into place. (Use crimping tool P/N 81 24 9 408 126 from BMW Electrical Repair Kit 1.)
7) Place the shrink tube over the splice and heat with a heat gun until tubing shrinks around wires.
8) With electrical tape, rewrap the portion of harness exposed in step 2.
9) Route the harness to the right side of the bumper and connect to the temperature sensor.
Note: If the vehicle was produced prior to 10/88 a new style temperature sensor (P/N 65 81 1 383 204) must also be installed.
10) Reinstall front bumper.
Note: After the repair procedure is completed, the temperature display on the OBC may still be inaccurate.
To correct, disconnect the battery for approximately 10 seconds to clear the memory.
