Woodcliff Lake, NJ April 1990 Service Engineering
SUBJECT: Service Interval Indicator I (9 LEDS)

MODELS: E30 (prior to 1/86 production)

Situation: For improved reliability, improvements have been made to the Service interval indicator processor/circuit board. These improvements are:

^ 2 Lithium buffer batteries - greater reliability, (versus NiCad) longer storage time.

^ Parallel circuit for - buffer batteries required buffer batteries only if main battery

is disconnected.

^ Activation switch - prevents drain on buffer
(contact bridge) batteries before placement

into vehicle.

^ FR4 (fiber-reinforced) - provides greater strength, board material reliability of circuitry.

^ Lacquering of all - prevents circuit migration, components self-discharge.

Installation

Note: Before inserting the circuit board into the cluster housing, the contact bridge must be moved to the "ON" position (see drawings) to activate the Service Interval Indicator.
