SUBJECT: Sound System

An optional sound system has been developed to improve the quality of music reproduction inside the car. It consists of an additional 4-channel amplifier and eight separate speakers.

The four low-to medium-frequency woofers are specially matched to the car interior. They are installed at the standard loudspeaker positions.

The four high-frequency domed tweeters are arranged to ensure the correct stereo effect at all seats. They are fluid-cooled for excellent power handling.

The domed tweeters at the front of the car are installed in special panels on the triangular mirror mountings. The rear tweeters are integrated in the loudspeaker housings.

Note: On E 24 models, the front tweeters are mounted on the inside door panel.

The lowto medium-frequency woofers are equipped with a crossover network consisting of a choke (1) and a capacitor (2). A coated diaphragm ensures clear sound reproduction. The magnet system is larger than on standard loudspeakers and can withstand higher loads.

The main loudspeaker unit is arranged to reflect sound onto the rear window to provide optimum stereo reproduction.

Note: On E 24 models, the loudspeakers are integrated in the two rear window shelf covers.

The 4-channel amplifier is rated at 20 Watts per channel.
A separate wiring harness is used to connect all of the components in the system. CAUTION The fader control has a new resistance value and cannot be interchanged with a previous one.
