Anti-Theft Radio Program Responsibilities
Dealer Responsibilities1) Dealers where the radio is removed upon vehicle receipt - Remove radio chassis but assure that the anti-theft radio program instructions and identification card is also removed from glove box and is taped or secured to radio chassis. This packet has the security codes for that particular radio chassis.
2) Dealers where the radio remains in vehicle upon vehicle receipt - Remove anti-theft packet, mark packet with dealer stock number and vehicle chassis number, store antitheft packet in stock sales jacket.
3) California - Remove boxed radio and store in secured area. The anti-theft radio program instructions and identification packet is inside the box.
Dealer Responsibilities at PDI (All Dealers)
1) With radio chassis in vehicle, open anti-theft packet, turn radio ON, enter code, check radio functionally. Do not remove code cards from the packet.
2) Mark code on PDI checklist and file in customer service files (maintain security of code information).
3) The anti-theft packet should be returned and stored in the stock sales jacket until time of delivery to the customer.
Dealer Responsibilities at Vehicle Delivery to Customer
1) Explain elements of anti-theft program to customer.
2) Explain operation of radio to customer.
Exchange and Over-The-Counter Radio Sales
Anti-theft packet to be included in all exchanges and new radio chassis. Return of Radio under Warranty
1) Obtain the code cards from the customer and attach them to the radio chassis.
2) Properly fill out and attach an Audio Return tag P/N 89 89 2 000 099.
3) Return radio to: BMW NA Quality Control Department Montvale, NJ 07645
Return of Radio out-of-warranty
1) Obtain the code cards from the customer and attach them to the radio chassis.
2) Follow procedures for out-of-warranty radios outlined in S.I. 65 01 85 (962).
Customer Responsibilities
1) Remove first code card from packet and place in wallet.
2) Remove second code card from packet and if applicable, give to second driver or file away for emergency usage.
3) Provide police with radio chassis number from code card for positive identification in the event radio is stolen.
4) Install "Warning Anti-Theft Radio" decals on car in places desired, Loss of Code Cards by Customer
The customer is informed in his BMW RADIO OWNER'S MANUAL and packet instructions to contact a BMW dealer who will then obtain the code from BMW NA. The customer should be advised that he may be charged for removal of the radio to ascertain the radio chassis number.
IT IS THE DEALER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REQUIRE CUSTOMER AND VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION (LICENSE AND VEHICLE REGISTRATION) PRIOR TO CONTACTING BMW NA FOR THE CODE.
To obtain a code from BMW NA contact your Regional Service Manager with the radio serial number and your dealer code. These codes will only be given out to authorized dealership personnel.
