SUBJECT: Inoperative On-Board Computer I

MODELS: All models so equipped

Complaint: The On-Board computer does not function.

Cause: Due to a voltage surge (such as improper jumpstarting procedures), a replacable, internal fuse P/N 81 22 9 408 011 may blow inside the On-Board Computer Control Unit.

Correction: Remove computer control unit from car.
Remove coding plug from computer control unit
Carefully pry off the cover and slide out the internal components. These components should only be handled by the multiple pin base plate to avoid any damage from a static discharge.

Remove the blown fuse and replace with a new one P/N 81 22 9 408 011.

Reinstall control unit cover and install control unit into car.
Warranty
Information: When a complaint of an inoperative On-Board Computer is received, check to see if the internal fuse is blown before replacing the control unit. All control Units received as of this date for warranty reimbursement with a blown fuse will be returned to the dealer.


Warranty
Status: Reimbursable under the terms of the applicable new car warranty.

1) For replacement of the internal fuse P/N 81 22 9 408 011 for the computer control unit use
Labor operation: 00 00 000
Labor allowance: 1 FRU

2) For removing/installing the computer control unit, use
Labor operation: 65 81 040
Labor allowance: refer to above labor operation and applicable model as listed in the Flat Rate Manual.
