Subject: SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
Models: 1984 325e and 528e
Synthetic manual transmission fluid has been installed during production in 1984 528e and 325e models (as of 12/83) to help reduce idle and off-idle gear rattle. Transmissions filled with synthetic fluid are identified wit a green sticker affixed to the transmission.
Please instruct your technicians not to change the synthetic fluid at the 1200 Mile Inspection. It should, however, be drained at each Inspection II.
Mobil SHC 630 is the only BMW tested and approved synthetic manual transmission fluid. It is available in 5 gallon pails or 55 gallon drums from:

Use of any other synthetic fluids may void the transmission warranty and result in rejected warranty claims for:
Oil seal leakage Premature synchro wear Premature bearing failure Premature shift fork wear Gear teeth damage

DO NOT USE SNYTHETIC FLUID MOBIL SHC 630 IN OTHER VEHICLES. THE TRANSMISSION SYNCHRONIZERS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SYNTHETIC FLUID AND PREMATURE WEAR WILL RESULT.
