Subject: ZF 4HP22 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Models: 1984 528e, 533i, 633CSi, 733i
The following information will enable you to service the new ZF 4HP22 transmission. Details of operation are contained in T.R.I. 24 01 83 (2024):
1. Ratios: Same as 3HP22 in 1, 2, 3, and R.
2. Converter: Fourth gear lock-up at 50 - 56 minimum, depending upon load. Approximately 300 RPM drop as lock-up clutch engages.
3. Adjustments: Same as 3HP22.
4. ATF - Same as 3HP22
5. ATF Capacity: a) "dry" torque converter and transmission fill with 6.5 quarts (7.0 liters) and check level thereafter as is presently done.
b) Change of fluid at inspections - Approximately 2.8 quarts (3.0 liters)
6. Repairs - Exchange program as with 3HP22.
