Front Engine Plate: Service and Repair

Sealing Flange with Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Assembly Tool (T40048)

• Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

• Protective eye-wear

• Sealant

Procedure

- Remove the ribbed belt from the coolant pump. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump Ribbed Belt Pulley ] Service and Repair.

- Remove vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Vibration Damper.

- Remove the bolts - arrows -.





- Loosen the sealing flange on the ribbed belt side from the bond.

• Replace the ribbed belt side sealing flange.

CAUTION!
Make sure that no sealant residue enters the engine.

CAUTION!
Wear safety glasses.

- Remove any sealant residue remaining on the cylinder block and the upper section of the oil pan, for example, use a rotating plastic brush.





- Clean sealing surfaces so they are completely free of any oil or grease.

• Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.





- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (jet dia. approximately 1.5 mm).

- Apply bead of sealant as illustrated to the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange.





• The groove - arrow - of sealing surface must be completely filled with sealant.

• The sealant bead must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm above the sealing surface.

• Sealant bead must not be thicker than specified, otherwise sealant could get into oil pan and clog the oil pump strainer.

• The sealing flange on the belt pulley side must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

- Insert Assembly Device (T40048/1) onto Pull Sleeve (T40048/2) and slide sealing flange - 1 - onto pull sleeve.





- Remove assembly device.

- Place the sealing flange with inserted Pull Sleeve (T40048/2) onto crankshaft.





- Without tipping, push the sealing flange onto engine sealing surface and fasten.

Further installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Install vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Vibration Damper.

- Install the coolant pump ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump Ribbed Belt Pulley ] Service and Repair.

- Install ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
