ATF Pipes
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)
• Protective glasses
• Rules of cleanliness for working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
• Thoroughly clean all connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting.
Removing
- Mark all corresponding Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) pipes in color to prevent mix-ups.
- Place the oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782) underneath.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Disconnect the ATF pipes.
• Depending on the version, the metal ATF pipes from the cooler to the transmission are a single line. On certain engines it is necessary to cut through the ATF pipe in order to remove it and then replace it with a two piece pipe.
- Plug openings of the pipes with clean sealing plugs.
Installing
Install in the reverse sequence; note the following points:
- Clean the ATF pipes. Refer to => [ ATF Pipes and Cooler Cleaning ] ATF Pipes and Cooler Cleaning.
- Replace the O-rings and coat lubricate with ATF.
- Insert the ATF pipes by hand into the transmission or cooler until fully seated and then tighten. Refer to:
• 6 cylinder engines, refer to => [ ATF Cooler and Pipes Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.
• 8 cylinder engines, refer to => [ ATF Cooler and Pipes Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.
- Check the ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF Level Checking and Correcting ] 09LA Automatic Transmission.
