Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair






ATF Cooling Lines and Cooler, Cleaning

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Compressed air gun, commercially available

Hose dia. approximately 18 mm

Oil receptacle

Before installing a replacement transmission, clean ATF cooling lines and cooler.

Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Thoroughly clean all connections and the surrounding area before disconnecting.

Procedure

- Place an oil collection container underneath.

- Remove bolt - 2 -.





- Place a hose approximately 18 mm dia. on ATF line - A - and secure with hose clamp. Hang the other end of the hose in the oil collection container.

CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.

- Blow through ATF line - B - with a compressed air gun (with max. 10 bar).

- Change hose from ATF line - A - to ATF line - B - and repeat procedure.

- Insert ATF cooling lines by hand completely into transmission or cooler as far as stop and then tighten => [ ATF Cooling Lines Assembly Overview, 4.2L MPI ] ATF Cooling Lines Assembly Overview, 4.2L MPI.

- Check ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
