ATF Lines and Cooler, Cleaning
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782)
• Compressed air gun, commercially available
• Before installing a replacement transmission, clean ATF cooler and ATF lines. If extremely dirty ATF flows out when blowing with compressed air, ATF cooler and ATF lines must also be flushed with clean ATF.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
• Thoroughly clean all connections and the surrounding area before disconnecting.
• When installing ATF lines, insert them by hand completely into transmission or ATF cooler as far as stop and then tighten.
Procedure
- Place used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782) under separating point.
- Remove bolt - 2 -.
- Push hose onto ATF line - A - and fasten with hose clamp. Hang other end of hose in oil collecting container.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Blow through the ATF line - B - with a compressed air gun (with max. 10 bar).
- Change hose from ATF line - A - to ATF line - B - and repeat procedure.
- Re-secure ATF lines.
- Check ATF level in planetary gearing => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
