Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Support bar (10 - 222 A)

• Shackles (10 - 222 A /12)

• Adapter (10 - 222 A /21)

Removing

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

• All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.

- Remove rubber seal - 1 - on plenum chamber covers.





- Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 -.

- Remove cover for right suspension strut dome by detaching expanding clip - 1 - and removing bolted joint - 2 -.





• Pay attention to retaining clips - arrows - on installation.

- Remove cover for left suspension strut dome by removing bolt - 1 - and detaching expanding clip - 2 -.





• Pay attention to retaining clips - arrows - on installation.

- Remove rear bolts - 3 - for dome brace.





- Attach (10 - 222 A) with (10 - 222 A /21) to suspension strut domes.

• Supports are marked for left and right side of vehicle.

• Center resting point of supports is positioned on front bolts for dome brace.

• (10 - 222 A /21) are secured with rear bolts - 3 - for dome brace.

• Knurled screw - 1 - must be screwed down such that support plate rests on suspension strut dome.

- Attach (10 - 222 A /12) to rear engine lifting eyes.





- Engage (10 - 222 A /12) at (10 - 222 A) spindles.

- Pre-tension engine slightly with engine support bridge spindles.

- On vehicles with parking heater, remove parking/auxiliary heater exhaust pipe screws - arrows - at noise insulation.





- Unfasten bolts/quick-release fasteners - 1 - and - 2 - and detach front noise insulation.





- Remove right front wheel.

- Remove front right wheel housing liner.

- Remove bolts - 1 through 3 - on both sides of vehicle.





- Lower subframe.

- Remove screws - arrows -.





- Remove clamp - 1 -.

- Unplug connector - 2 - at engine mount.

- Remove heat shield for right drive axle - arrows -.





- Remove link plate for front exhaust pipe on right - arrows -.





- Remove bolt - arrow -.





- Remove bolt - 1 -.





- Disconnect electrical wire for terminal B+ - item 2 -

- Unplug connector for terminal 50 - item 3 -.

• Depending on construction type, terminal 50 may be bolted onto starter.

- Remove starter downwards.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

• Attach all cable ties at the same locations when installing.

- Install the crossmember.

- Install the right front wheel housing liner.

- Connect battery. Required actions, refer to => [ To connect, connect terminal clamp of ground (GND) wire by hand to battery negative terminal and tighten nut. ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
