Front Information Display Control Head

CAUTION!
• This section refers to components of the communication systems available in Europe and not all apply to communication systems used in USA and Canada.

CAUTION!
• Switch off all electrical components.

• Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Removing

To remove, the screen (Front Information Display Control Head (J685)) must be folded out. If it is no longer possible to fold out the screen by operating the Front Display Open/close Button (E462), the emergency release must be operated.

- Remove right and left vents from screen.

- Remove panel above glove compartment.

- Remove instrument cluster panel.

- Remove panel for Front Information Display Control Head (J685).

Vehicles with emergency release

The release cable - 3 - is located on left at the vent opening.





- Pull on it in - direction of arrow - and slide the trim - 2 - using the other hand into the instrument panel until screen - 1 - is completely folded out.

all vehicles

- Remove bolts - arrows - (3 Nm).





- Carefully pull screen unit - 1 - out of instrument panel - 2 -.

- Disconnect harness connector on screen.

- Disconnect harness connector to Open-Close Display Motor (V301).

- To do so, remove driver's side storage tray.

The screen can be separated from the screen unit.

- Remove bolts - arrows - (2 Nm).

- Disengage screen - 1 - from mount - 2 -.





- Loosen cable ties.

Vehicles without emergency release

Proceed as follows for vehicles without the emergency release and malfunctioning Open-Close Display Motor (V301):

- Remove right and left vents from screen.

- Remove panel above glove compartment.

- Remove instrument cluster panel.

- Remove panel for Front Information Display Control Head (J685).

- Pry the mount for panel - 1 - out of screen unit - 2 - - arrows -.





• Mount and screen unit at top may be damaged. Only the screen (if functioning) is to be used again.

- Remove screen by loosening both screws - arrows - (2 Nm).





- Remove the wire from screen to Front Information Display Control Head Control Module (J523).

- Disconnect harness connector to Open-Close Display Motor (V301).

- To do so, remove driver's side storage tray.

- Remove screen unit completely.

Installing

- Install screen into a new screen unit.

- Perform further installation in reverse order.
