June 16, 2009.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 92 number 08-05 dated December 5, 2008 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

- Rear washer jet is without function.
- Bose sound system, MMI, telephone, or navigation without function.

Technical Background

The washer fluid hose to the rear washer jet breaks near the last mounting on the D-pillar due to opening and closing of the tail gate.

As a result, the washer fluid enters the vehicle in the left rear corner, causing water ingress to the electrical connections of one or more electrical components.

Production Solution

Additional installation of a rubber hose to offer additional support in the area of movement of the original water line.

Service
1. Remove D-pillar trim, tail gate trim and rear headliner trim.
2. Replace a section of the original water hose by cutting approximately 5 cm beyond the last mounting point of the hose.

3. Remove the cloth insulation tape from both ends of the water hose and install connector piece 1J0 955 875.

4. Cut the replacement hose, part number N 018 046 3, to the same length as the removed section of water line minus 2 cm and install connector piece 1J0 955 875 R.

5. Cut two pieces of the heat shrink tubing (approximately 8 cm each) and slide over the hoses prior to connecting hoses together.

6. Move the heat shrink pieces over the connecting pieces and heat using hot air gun.

TIP: Heat the heat shrink from the center to the outside.

7. Install additional cloth tape above the heat shrink tubing (Figure 7). Install the repaired hose back to the original mounting points using new tie straps.

8. Test the rear washer system for proper operation and ensure that no leak is present.
9. Reinstall removed trim panels.
