Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 69 number 08-08 dated December 3, 2008 for reasons listed below.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
Airbag warning light illuminates due to sporadic fault entry.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Airbag warning light illuminates due to sporadic fault entry.
The following DTCs sporadically could be present in the Airbag Control Module: DTC 01211, 01212, 01213, 01638 and 01639.
The rear seatbelt pretensioner igniters will continue to function as designed if DTCs are set as sporadic faults.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Improved software for airbag control module introduced.
SERVICE
1. Determine whether the airbag control module has any crash data stored.
^ If the module has crash data stored, the module cannot be updated. Replace the airbag control module and complete steps necessary for component protection and coding.
Note:
Coding will be determined by the control module and can be different than with the original module. New modules are shipped with SW level 300 and do not have be updated.
^ If the module does not have crash data stored, proceed to step 2 to continue with the SVM update.
2. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.
3. Update software for airbag control module (J234) using the SVM action code as listed in the table below if necessary.
4. After software update has completed, choose prompt (1) to view changes. Print the confirmation update screen, and attach the screen printout to the vehicle service file.
5. Continue to exit GFF. This will clear stored DTCs generated by the software update.
6. OBD II-related faults may not clear automatically; therefore, you must clear those faults manually. It is not necessary to generate a readiness code.
Tip: Vehicles with satellite radio option that is not activated by the customer will have a "not active" fault code stored. Please ignore this fault entry if customer has not activated the satellite radio feature.
7. At prompt to print GFF diagnostic report, choose "YES" and print short version of the diagnostic report. Attach printout to vehicle warranty file.
Note:
The program may loop back for additional updates to other control modules. Update only software for valid customer concern as outlined in the Technical Service Bulletin in which the Action Code was printed. Warranty does not cover time expended on updating (flashing) modules not explicitly stated in the bulletin.
